What Really Attracts Clients?

Guest Post by Barb Wade

MA-12-5-13There’s a famous adage in advertising that says, “I know that 50% of my marketing works, I just don’t know which 50%!”

Let’s face it: in today’s super connected world, the marketplace is crowded and noisy. And the competition often devolves into a contest of who can yell the loudest.

The problem is (and this is very serious) people are tuning out as quickly as they can hit the “unsubscribe” button.

So how do you rise above the rabble? How do you really employ attraction marketing and not get caught up in the “look at me!!!” bullhorn style of marketing?

Here are some hints that can help you begin to differentiate yourself in today’s market:

Focus On Them

This may sound fundamental, but it’s good to reiterate: you must always start with your client’s needs in mind. Every touch point with your market must be about relating to their most pressing problems and going about solving them. Answering their questions and helping them overcome their challenges even before they know you or choose to do business with you is the core of attraction marketing. Remember that the question in everyone of your prospects’ minds is, “What’s in it for me?” Make sure you are always looking at it from their perspective and speaking to that question first.

Put Your Message First

Ultimately, your clients aren’t buying your “stuff.” They are buying you. They are attracted to your perspective, your POV, and your style. Sure, they want your service or content, but more importantly, they want to be a part of what you stand for. You need to know what it is that you uniquely bring to the party and then have the courage to put that in forefront of your business. Tell your personal story and those who resonate with it will naturally be attracted to you.

Give Away Your Best Stuff

If your potential clients want information, they can get it in a thousand places and usually for free. Legendary marketing guru David Olgilvy would write articles for newspapers teaching people how to write the best advertising copy. It immediately set him up as the go-to expert. His name became synonymous with great marketing. And that was long before Facebook. So give away your best tips, tricks, strategies, and concepts. And when your audience needs help implementing your ideas, they will hire you!

Be Impeccable

Today, the consumer is king (or queen.) Thanks to the Internet, comparison-shopping is only an iPad away and word gets out lightning fast when a business doesn’t treat its customers well. That’s why now more than ever you should adopt an “under promise / over deliver” strategy. Go over and above when it comes to serving your clients. Have an ironclad, no hassle guarantee. Add unexpected bonuses to your offer. Do what you say you’re going to do when you say you’re going to do it.

If you put these strategies in place, I assure you that you will become a veritable client magnet and be well on your way to standing out in the crowd.
