How to Heal Your Business (And Your Clients)

I was practicing yoga and my teacher said something that stuck with me the rest of the day.

“It’s time to let go of 2012 and it’s time to be here now.”

Her words made me realize how it’s so easy to be in the past and even be in the future, while completing forgetting the present. Especially when it comes to your business. Maybe you’re still ruminating about last year – what went well, what didn’t. Or maybe you’re so far ahead in 2013 because you’ve created this big vision for yourself and you’re living “out there”. Don’t get me wrong, I love Big Visions….as long as you know what to do with them in the present moment to bring them forward into your reality.

So where are you right now? If you feel frozen in the present, still worrying about the past or contemplating the future of your business and how to get there this year, it’s time to heal your business.

As a holistic practitioner or coach, you’re focused on helping and healing your clients. What I’m about to tell you today is that the best way to heal your clients is to heal your business first.

Healing your business can be done in four steps:

  1. Get Clear – Decide what you desire for your business and your life. Is it more clients? More support? More exciting opportunities? More income? More fun? More freedom? More of all of these things?! Get clear on what you want first and make it personal. It’s easy to look at what others are doing and think that’s what you want. Spend some time asking yourself what you really want. I’ve found the best way to do this is to journal and write it out.
  2. Get Grounded – Getting grounded in your business is about bringing your vision into the present without fears or expectations about what should be right now. The key to reaching your vision is to break into as many small steps as possible. This is called “chunking”. Chunk it down and get grounded in each little chunk. When you’re doing something that seems small, you can go back to your big vision and see how it’s an important piece of the puzzle.
  3. Hone in on your Gifts – My hope for you this year is that you stop trying to be everything to everyone! That’s so painful and it will leave you stuck. Instead focus on your unique gifts. Your unique gifts are the very reason your clients are attracted to you. If you’re someone who compares yourself to other Holistic practitioners and Coaches, wishing you were where they are or doing what they’re doing (believe me, I’ve been there! this is completely normal BTW), remember that the only thing that matters is how you are uniquely YOU. Your uniqueness is your brand, as Jess from recently shared in January’s IAWP Member Coaching Call. So bring forth your gifts and then, do this….
  4. Go Deep – Instead of trying to be good at everything, go deep into your gifts and see how this can be a true service to your clients. Most people try to broaden themselves and offer too many things in their business, hoping someone will like something enough to buy it. Can you see why this doesn’t work? By offering tons of services, products, and programs to your clients, you’re not offering anything unique. STOP doing this (pretty please?!) I know it’s a hard shift to make, but it will make all the difference. Here’s an example….

Let’s say your unique gift in working with your clients is the healing support that you provide. Ask yourself, How can I do more of that? For many Holistic Practitioners and Coaches this means creating an even greater transformation for their clients with the healing support they provide. So if you offer hands on healing, go deeper with your support by providing coaching with your client, another level of transformation. If you already coach your clients, design programs that allow your clients to create deeper transformations after they initially work with you.

It’s not about adding more “stuff”, it’s about going deeper. What your clients really want is transformation.

In the weeks ahead, I’ll be sharing lots of valuable content and resources to help you create deeper transformations with your clients. This is the key to healing your business and healing your clients. If you really want to make a difference and transform your clients’ lives and your own life as you express yourself through your business, stay tuned!

I’d love to hear what you’re healing in your business this year. Share below!
