Have you Fallen in Love Yet in Your Business?

I just returned from a little R&R celebrating my wedding anniversary with my husband David, the love of my life. Here we are after a celebratory dinner. Whether or not you’re married, involved or single, most likely you have experienced falling in love before. It’s an amazing feeling and wherever you go, you radiate with a glow. Imagine sharing that same kind of glow when you encounter new, potential clients or share what you do with others. Sounds a little strange? In this week’s article, I’m going to suggest you fall in love with someone very special in your business….

What does Falling in Love have to do with your business? A lot! There’s someone you must fall in love with in your business if you want to succeed. Who is it? Your Clients!

Business guru Jay Abraham said, “In order to be successful, you have to…fall in love with other people and what you are doing for them.”

I couldn’t agree more. I love each and every one of you, my readers, subscribers, members, clients…and I love helping you succeed. Being in love with you to me means that I truly care about your success and your work and helping you to get your message out to the world. It means providing you with consistent value that you can apply to your business and letting you know I’m always here, believing in you. It also means that I sometimes have to push your buttons a little and urge you to take action on something I know is going to change your life. That’s just what you do when you love and care about someone.

Are you in love with your clients?

What I mean by falling in love with your clients is caring so passionately and deeply about their lives and what will make them happier/more successful/healthy/fill- in- the- blank- with- what- you- help- people- achieve… so much so that you will go to all lengths to support them.

Most wellness professionals will say yes to “loving” the following:
Yes, I love what I do!
Yes, I love helping my clients!
Yes, I love changing lives!

But there’s one thing they forget to really love that changes everything. Marketing. Most of us do not love marketing. In fact, most wellness pro’s start popping digestive enzymes at the thought of marketing!

What does marketing have to do with falling in love with your clients?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that if you don’t fall in love with marketing, you’re not as in love with your clients and your work as you think. Really, I’m not kidding. Here’s why: If you believe you are making a difference in people’s lives you need to communicate that to them so they can receive your support. You need to share how you can support them in the biggest, best possible way. Which means you can’t sit behind your desk and just wait for someone to email you or call you looking for support. You also can’t put your message out there “half-way” and just cross your fingers. You have to learn to market what you do, it’s fundamental to sharing your message so that you can love your clients to the fullest.

If you don’t communicate what it is you do and how you change lives, not only will your ideal, potential clients never hear you or know about you, you are actually part of a bigger problem. The bigger problem is…

You are not sharing your life-changing work so that people can live better, be healthier and experience the results your support provides them. And that is a complete disservice not only to your potential clients, but to humanity.

Changing Lives with Marketing

You have to be active in sharing your message so you can effectively reach those who need your help. If you don’t market your services and support, the bottom line is, less people will change their lives and evolve. Afterall, you got into this work to help people, didn’t you?

To get started with Falling in love with Marketing, consider the following:

Always think in terms of sharing your passion and learning to communicate so people know exactly what you do and how you can help them. You don’t have to worry about being too salesy or marketing-ish, you’re doing work that serves the world and people want to learn about it.

I know, you don’t like to think of yourself as a marketer. So here’s what I want you to do: think of yourself as a Communicator. You are here to communicate your message effectively so the people who need your support to change their lives will hear you. It’s that simple.

Effective Communication can mean:

  • Connecting
  • Sharing value
  • Providing advice
  • Listening
  • Teaching
  • Helping
  • Supporting
  • Shouting from the roof tops!

See how easy it is to have a mindset shift around marketing?

Believing in Your Work

As a practitioner or coach, you’ve seen how simple changes in health and wellness can have profound impacts on people’s lives. Just cutting out sugar or exercising more can mean living a better life for someone, right? In order to effectively communicate and reach your ideal clients, you must start by believing in what you do. You must be convinced that you work is life-changing….and it is! I’ve seen people get healthier just by having someone who listens to them! I’m sure you have amazing stories to share as well.

Once you believe in your work, then you must share it. If you don’t share it, no one’s life will be changed. You’re actually doing a disservice to the world if you have something incredible to share but don’t go out and share it.

All of the time you’ve spent training, studying and learning is very important. But, It’s only 50% of your “job”. The second half of your work is about sharing what you have learned so you can support others. And if you only go half-way, than that’s exactly what you’ve done. It may even mean getting support in how to market your business if you have no idea how to tread the waters or want to get there faster.

Acupuncture, Vitamin D…and Marketing

Just like you went to school to learn how to become a wellness practitioner in your specific field, you have to learn how to inspire others through communication (just another word for marketing, really). Here’s a few steps to get started with your Marketing 101 Training:

1. Try Modeling – Look for people’s whose stuff you love and see how they communicate their message effectively. Studying other’s work can serve as a great example, but remember to find your own voice.

2. Be Consistent – Just as you know how multiple coaching sessions, regular acupuncture treatments or consistency with taking Vitamin D makes a difference for your clients, you, too have to learn to practice consistency to see results. Whatever it is you are communicating, you need to share your message consistently – this can be through a newsletter list, email subscriber database, video tips, social media and other personal ways of consistently reaching out to your ideal clients. Consistency shows your clients you’re thinking of them and you’re always there to support them.

3. Provide Value – sharing your message and communicating it means providing value about your passion. Don’t hold back when it comes to providing value for your potential clients, they’ll sense that immediately. When you give, you’ll be seen as an amazing resource and the go-to-expert in your niche.

4. Embrace the Uncomfortable – Are you ever going to feel ready to “do marketing”? Let’s face it, you’ll never feel ready unless you start. Stepping outside your comfort zone never feels comfortable, until you do it. So I suggest, just do it!

Remember, as a wellness professional, you’re not just in the field of health & wellness, you’re in the field of marketing, too.
