Will they leave you? (The Real Deal on Email Etiquette, Part 1)

Every time I got ready to send an email, I wondered if someone would be bothered or bored. Or worst yet, that they might leave and unsubscribe!

Then one day I decided that it was okay if someone wanted to unsubscribe.

Because when someone unsubscribes, someone else doesn’t unsubscribe.

The people who stay on are really resonating with my message. They’re in the right place. We’re connecting on a deeper level than just the words written in this email.

When I first realized this, I was free! I could share my message without fear. And a deeper clarity came rushing it…..

It’s actually my duty to email you.

The reason I’m emailing you today is to remind you that it’s your duty, too, to email your community, your clients, your tribe. If you don’t, they’ll be left trying to solve their problem on their own.

This week I’m sharing with you the first blog in a two part series on “The Real Deal on Email Etiquette”.

In this post, you’re about to discover the 3 questions you shouldn’t be asking when you email and the 5 questions you should definitely ask before you hit Send.

Think about an email list that you’re on that really resonates with you. No matter what shows up in your inbox, you’re going to save some time that day to read it. Because it matters to you and speaks to you.

I want you to have that same effect on your community and clients.

If you’re wondering how much to email your list, you’re not alone. It’s a common question for most holistic practitioners and coaches who want to start or grow an online community and business. Usually it shows up in the form of a fear anytime you get ready to hit the ‘Send button’ with one of the 3 questions that you should not ask yourself before you hit send:

Will people unsubscribe?
Will they be annoyed?
And ultimately, the real fear of “Will they like me?”

These three questions are going to leave you in fear, doubt and inaction. It’s time to leave these questions behind and replace them with more empowering ones that will have you feeling excited to share your message with your list.

The 5 Questions You Must Ask Before You Hit Send

What I want you to start asking instead are these five important questions…

  1. Am I providing value to people who need to hear from me?
  2. I am helping to solve a problem in this email?
  3. Am I educating first?
  4. Am I getting closer to the heart of my ideal client?
  5. If I don’t send this message, will people lose out on information that could have helped them?

When you ask these questions instead, it doesn’t matter if people unsubscribe or if they’re annoyed or if they “leave you”. Because they weren’t your people anyway! They weren’t the people who you needed to help. They weren’t the people waiting for you.

When someone unsubscribes, thank them! You now are honing in on who is really listening and resonating with your message….and who you’re meant to serve.

Those are the type of readers and clients you are going for, agreed?
