Holistic Cures for the Common Cold

The best thing you can do for the common cold is to prevent from happening in the first place. And, it starts with having a healthy immune system. So, we want to care for ourselves all the time, not just when we’re sick. What are some of the things we can do to take care of ourselves and keep our natural immune defenses prepared?

Sleep – Getting enough sleep is important because this when the body does maintenance, repair, and detoxification. Without enough sleep, your body may not be able to function at its best and your immune system may be negatively impacted.

Antioxidant Lifestyle – Live an antioxidant lifestyle! Eat lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole food that are filled with antioxidants to boost your immune system. Think of antioxidants as the reinforcement your immune system needs to fight off foreign bodies, viruses, and infections before they really take hold.

Herbs – You can also boost your immune system with certain herbs like oregano, basil, and turmeric. You can prepare herbal teas, add them to recipes, or add in the forms of oils or supplements.

Vitamin D – Vitamin D is so important for our immune system. It’s one of the reasons why colds are more common in the winter when we’re not getting as much sunlight. While the body can naturally manufacture Vitamin D from sunlight, it may be appropriate for some people to supplement, especially in the winter months.

Sugar – It’s time to rethink our sweet tooth. Sugar weakens our immune system. Avoiding sugar, including refined carbohydrates is perhaps the # 1 way to boost your immune system.

“Live an antioxidant lifestyle! Eat lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole food that are filled with antioxidants to boost your immune system.”

So, what should you do if you get a cold despite following all the guidelines to strengthen your immune system? Trust in your body and nourish it with the fuel it needs to get you back to feeling like yourself again. Getting enough sleep, eating whole foods full of antioxidants, and avoiding sugar are all still important; however, once a cold has taken hold, what should you do?

These natural remedies might help!

Raw Honey – Raw honey is antibacterial and antiviral. It boosts the immune system and is very soothing on your throat.

Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus oil is great for clearing nasal passages so you can breathe better and get some rest. Put it on a wet warm towel and place it on your chest for a warm aromatic wet compress or do a steam shower with the oil or over breath in the steam from boiling some water with eucalyptus oil.

Nettie Pot – Using a nettie pot can also help you clear your nasal passages. A nettie pot is a small vessel used to gently flush water through your nasal passages.

Vitamin C – Vitamin C is one of the best antioxidants to support your immune system. Consider eating plenty of citrus and taking a supplement when your immune system is in overdrive such as times when you’re down with a cold.

Ginger – Ginger also helps support returning to good health from a cold. It helps clear congestion and boosts immunity. Try shredding ginger root and adding it to some hot soup or enjoy some hot ginger tea.

Broth – Bone broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system. It contains healing compounds like collagen which heals your gut and reduces inflammation. It could even be considered a superfood! Think about making bone broth ahead of time and freezing it as it takes 24 to 72 hours to make broth from boiling.

Wellness Coaches Make a Difference Locally and Around the World

What kind of a business could you create as a Wellness Coach? What type of work could you do?

We’ve seen our graduates do many things, but let’s just say you’re only limited by your own imagination! In this article, we talk about making a difference as a Wellness Coach in your local community as well as making a global impact. You see, as a Wellness Coach, your work is really important. You have a significant message to share; what you do changes lives.

At the local level, Wellness Coaches deliver their message to their local community, usually in person. Communication occurs through personal contact face-to-face.

A Wellness Coach who has a local focus likes to inspire her own community. She may do this through networking, connecting with people face-to-face, and sharing ideas.

She may lead workshops, live events, do personal or small group coaching or even get involved in a school lunch program. She wants to make a difference at the local level.

Wellness Coaches may also work at a global level. Their focus is on a wider audience through the use of technology. Communication occurs virtually, for example, by phone calls, Skype, teleseminars or webinars.

A Wellness Coach who wants to make an impact on a specific population or problem will likely be more of a global leader. She will take advantage of technology such as the internet, Skype, and the phone to bring people together from across the globe. She may make an impact by creating online programs, leading wellness retreats, or designing a group training program.

“We’ve seen our graduates do many things, but let’s just say you’re only limited by your own imagination.”

Neither the local or global track is any better than the other. You will likely be drawn to one track over another based on your personal goals and personality. Keep in mind that your focus as a Wellness Coach may change over time. You may gravitate toward working in your local community or making an impact through global initiatives, but neither is set in stone.

In addition, you may choose to blend tracks over time, offering some of your work in your local community while simultaneously building an online presence.

For example, you might work with face-to-face clients and also with clients located in other places via phone or Skype. Or, you might give a workshop in your local community and also teach a webinar online.

Whether you want to help people locally or globally, you can do it as an IAWP Wellness Coach. We teach our students how to build a Wellness Coaching career that they love to wake up to everyday. Through our comprehensive training and lifetime support, we support you every step of the way.

5 tips to Love Your Clients Up on Valentines

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image12930993Valentines’ Day only comes once a year and it’s can be a fun way to let your clients know how much you appreciate them. ‘Cause without your clients, you wouldn’t be in business! The problem for most Holistic Pro’s is that there’s only so many hours in the day and it’s easy to spend most of your time focusing on getting new clients or doing new marketing. But nurturing your existing clients is one of the best things you can do.

I like to keep my Valentines’ Day love simple and sweet.

Here’s 5 few tips you can implement by tomorrow to show your clients some love:

Send a Special Email

Send a simple email expressing appreciation for your clients. Let them know how much having them as a client means to you. For some clients, this may be the only “love letter” they’ll receive.

Share a delicious, healthy Valentines’ treat

Everyone loves a little sweet treat on Valentines’ Day! If you see clients in person, you can make them something, create a recipe card or share your Top 5 Tips for self-love on Valentines’ (bubble bath?) Or simply create online access to this special tip or goodie.

If you don’t have one, use the recipe below for Cacao & Pistachio Bark, one of my favorites!

Offer a heartfelt gift

Everyone likes a gift! Keep it simple and create a pdf report of tips, a video message from you, an audio clip, or access to a special live call with you where you can answer questions from your community or clients.

Make sure to keep your gift personal. Who doesn’t love something homemade! Share a personal story or a personal favorite tip or idea.

A few other things to keep in mind when loving up your clients on Valentines:

Don’t sell anything – The main reason for sending a Valentines Day promotion or gift is just to express your gratitude and appreciation for your clients. So don’t use this as an opportunity to sell anything or create discounts on your products. Just offer something of great value without a pricetag and it will be extra sweet!

Don’t overcomplicate – Don’t get overwhelmed in what to do or how to say it. Keep it simple for yourself and sweet for your clients. Speak from your heart and hit send!

I’d love to hear from you! What are you doing to love your clients up on Valentines’ Day. Share your comments below.
